I’ve known and admired Edmund’s leadership abilities for 16 years - ever since I first learnt of his HIV advocacy in China while I was at WHO. By reaching out to civil society and bringing community groups and NGOs together with the Chinese health authorities, Edmund pioneered a model of collaboration that would be replicated and scaled up regionally via the UN and its partners, including the regional health and human rights NGO, he helped found, the APCOM Foundation. His programme management skills and empathy ensured that this critical health and human rights issue remained at the top of the agenda of the community groups, government ministries and the UN. His efforts included securing funding, cycle after cycle, from key donors, including support for the pioneering, multi-country Global Fund/HIV, and LGBTI initiatives that were both revolutionary at the time and have been replicated globally.

Throughout his career, Edmund mentored many community and government advocates seeking to make a difference, nurturing their commitment and passion, and helping them match their skills to their ambitions. In this he was both a supervisor and a coach, leading from behind, reluctant to take credit for the many amazing accomplishments he achieved. Edmund’s transition from international development to executive coaching is a natural shift.
